Overactive Bladder Study Guide
Bladder control problems affect an estimated 23 million Americans, more than those affected by osteoporosis or Alzheimer's disease. There are 3 main types of bladder control problems: overactive bladder; sphincter abnormalities (primarily stress incontinence); and mixed incontinence, a combination of both overactive bladder and sphincter abnormalities.
Overactive bladder is a common type of bladder control problem and is never a normal part of aging. An estimated 17 million Americans suffer the restrictive symptoms of overactive bladder; urinary frequency, urgency, or urge incontinence.
This Internet-based continuing medical education enduring material on urinary incontinence was orginally developed by the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) Office of Continuing Education.
